HISTORY OF THE HELMET CARD

The tradition of putting a playing card in a helmet dates back to World War II. Soldiers would place a card in their helmet as a way to identify themselves to their fellow soldiers. The card would often have a personal message or a symbol that represented their unit or their country. It was also believed that the card would bring good luck and protect the soldier from harm. Today, the tradition continues among firefighters and other first responders, who often place a card in their helmet as a symbol of their dedication and commitment to their profession.
